"We started leaf + loom in March of 2020 after we were evacuated from Malaysia in the wake of COVID-19. We had been contracted to teach in a rural province of Kedah for one year and-- suddenly-- we found ourselves thrust onto international flights and homeward bound: unemployed and stripped of housing, insurance, and vehicles. During our quarantine (and in the months following), we found solace in expressing our creativity as we searched for jobs and tried to recalibrate after such a devastating loss of livelihood. In the midst of all these terrifying unknowns, there was a glimmer of hope and happiness in the beauty we could create--thus, leaf + loom was born. Now, we are regularly commissioned to create and sell our artisan craft goods, which include rustic obsidian knives, hand-embroidered art, and various leather goods. We live together in a small apartment in historic Old Louisville and love our little quarantine-hobby-turned-small-business!" -- leaf + loom
