Buffalo Abstract #1, mixed media painting on 24" x 30" canvas by Lindsey Taylor!
Taylor is interested in art as a vehicle for transformation, growth, and understanding. As a process focused artist, Taylor implements a wide spectrum of techniques and media, including acrylic, spray paint, ink and pastels. Using experimental tools such as palate knives and drip techniques in her paint application, Taylor builds up textural layers that reflect the metamorphosis each piece goes through during its creation. When in process, Taylor tries to collaborate with the painting itself, allowing it to “unfold”, and reveal its soul to her. She considers this intuitive communication with her work to be a responsibility of her as an artist, viewing her role as a facilitator in helping the piece emerge from the canvas.
Imagery of astronauts and the cosmos dominate Taylor’s canvases, resonating as symbols of freedom and liberation.
“When I created my first astronaut I felt as if I was home. It was very emotional and it inspired me to create this collection…. I took the idea of the unknown and the freedom associated with that and combined it with modern world thinking. It’s about breaking the rules of confinement of who we are supposed to be. We all dream of the unknown and the mystery of it all, we are more than our daily lives on the outside. We are our dreams - and this is mine.” -- Lindsey Taylor
