Pearlescent Reverie by local artist Randell Madden
Dimensions: 30" x 36"
In my latest creation, "Pearlescent Reverie," I have sought to capture the delicate balance between life and death masculine & feminine, while merging the organic and the artificial in a thought-provoking manner. The central motif of "Pearlescent Reverie" is a skull, an age-old symbol that has fascinated artists and philosophers alike throughout history. The most common symbolic use of the skull is a representation of luck, bravery, academic success, a symbol of toughness and ultimately reminding us of our mortality.
By adhering thousands of pearls, meticulously attached to a foam board, which is in turn affixed to a canvas, I have sought to imbue this timeless icon with an ethereal and transcendent quality. The combination of & new pearls, with their lustrous and opalescent sheen, serve as a metaphor for the fleeting moments of beauty that punctuate our existence.
Ultimately, "Pearlescent Reverie" is an invitation to embrace the transient nature of life, to find solace in the ephemeral, and to celebrate the profound beauty that exists within the boundaries of our mortal existence. My goal was to invite viewers to contemplate the power of life and the profound beauty that can be found within it.
