Light + Sound: A Local Lens on Live Music

Revelry Gallery opens a new photography exhibition entitled: Light & Sound: A Local Lens on Live Music, curated by local writer-filmmaker Mark Rabinowitz and featuring his work as well as that of three other local photographers who have turned their lenses on Louisville's vibrant local music scene. Light & Sound: A Local Lens on Live Music features photo and video works by three young local artists, Will Fenwick, Tess Fulkerson and Rylee Gordon, as well as Rabinowitz, a not-so-young artist.

"I moved to Louisville about 8 1/2 years ago and one of the first things I noticed was the active local music scene," said Rabinowitz, "and I'm thrilled to be able to document some of that scene alongside three extremely talented young artists, integral parts of Louisville's vibrant arts culture." The quartet are all regular habitués of the local music scene, with Fulkerson also performing as a member of local trio Qwerty, who will also be celebrating their latest release at Whirling Tiger on the opening night of the show.

Light & Sound features photographs and video of local and touring musical artists, both on and off stage, including, Anemic Royalty, Shark Sandwich, Belushi Speedball, The Ego Trippers, White Reaper and many more, as well as shots of the local scene & fans at venues and events including, Headliners Music Hall, the Kentucky State Fair, Poorcastle, Zanzabar and others

About Rylee Gordon

Rylee Gordon is a photographer and artist from Louisville, Kentucky raised in, and by, the DIY music scene. She has worked to put the heart of Louisville at the forefront of all her work, acknowledging the inherent overlap of art, empathy, and action. In 2019 she created a short documentary about the DIY community and since then has put on fundraising shows for local grass roots organizations, designed sustainable merch for bands, and worked actively on the No Comply team. In her photographic work she hopes to capture in fragments the fever pitch and transcendence of live music that in real time is all encompassing.

About Will Fenwick

24 year-old William Stephen Fenwick is an award-winning, self-taught professional artist from Louisville, Kentucky. His passion for photography & cinematography began at the age of eleven and by the age of 16, freelance opportunities laid the foundation for a career in the arts. Two years later, after collaborating with artists such as Too Short and Snoop Dogg, he would transform his passion into a full-time career. His work covers multiple genres, from commercial to fine art and has been featured in exhibitions, competitions and magazines in the United States and abroad.

About Mark Rabinowitz

Mark Rabinowitz's interest in photography began in 1980 with his father's Pentax K1000, the starter 35mm SLR camera for multiple generations of photographers. In addition to photography, Mark co-founded Indie Wire and has spent over 25 years as film producer, journalist and for six blissful months was one of two film critics for CNN. His photographs have previously been exhibited in his father's office, his parents' home, his high school yearbook and on Kelly Macdonald's Wikipedia page. This is his first public exhibition.

About Tess Fulkerson

A fixture in the Louisville, KY music and arts community, Tess Fulkerson is a 26 year-old multidisciplinary artist, using photography as her main medium. Her grainy, black & white style has become a staple on the local scene. Fulkerson is also a member of touted local band qwerty and handles tour booking and management for other local and non-local artists. Fulkerson holds a computer engineering & computer science degree from the University of Louisville.
