Joe Banet

Joe Banet

Joe Banet is a multidisciplinary artist, ceramicist, sculptor, painter, and classically trained chef (amongst other things) whose work bridges craft, function, and personal narrative. A Kentuckiana native, Joe spent more than two decades immersed in the culinary world, refining a deep appreciation for texture, composition, balance, storytelling, and the transformative nature of handmade work.

After a decade cooking in Los Angeles, he returned to ceramics and visual art with renewed focus, drawing inspiration from both natural materials and lived experience. Now based in Louisville’s Butchertown neighborhood, Joe works across clay, paint, macrame, and driftwood, as well as other mediums, to create functional and sculptural objects that range from richly colorful to quietly monochromatic.

His work explores the tension between balance and instability, through sculptural forms that appear effortless while often relying on delicate structural relationships beneath the surface. Much like life itself, the pieces aim to embody the unseen labor of holding things together. Whether through ceramic vessels, abstract sculpture, or painted surfaces, Joe’s practice reflects a fascination with material and a respect for honesty, imperfection, and the poetry hidden within everyday forms.
