Gretchen Leachman’s journey with miniatures began during the pandemic. Using found objects around her home, it became a personal challenge to craft smaller and smaller pieces. Not just as a means of escape during a global event, but to push herself as an artist to see how tiny her creations can go.
Nothing is off limits to Gretchen. From paper and clay, to wood and wire, the inspiration for her miniatures can manifest out of anything.
The result is a series of whimsical sculptures depicting the places Gretchen loves to be, and spaces she wishes were reality. In changing the perspectives and uses of everyday objects, this artist constructs a new way for us to delight in the things we often take for granted.
There is joy to be found in everyday details. It’s not the big things - but the little things - that transform us and remind us of what truly matters.
